Text Lists to Go

Merlin has gone on about the power of Quicksilver's Append To... action and simple text files to keep track of all kinds of data. I decided to drink the Kool-Aid and give it a try for my "on-the-go" contexts. To make it really useful, I set up my Mac to automatically sync my lists to the Notes folder on my iPod every time it gets plugged in. This has turned out to be pretty powerful stuff - I can now knock out text files for all kinds of purposes in just a few seconds, and take them with me when I go. Great post. You could also try the Make Action Lists script for the Ready-Set-Do! program I designed on the mac. It makes text files of your entire inventory of actionables and projects so you can take them with you. It even earmarks the ones that are the most important or that have fast approaching deadlines. There is also a Sync iCal ToDos script included that ports the text of documents along with each todo for easier syncing with handheld devices. One note to mention is that the iPod and most PDA's have character limits. The Palm, for example has a limit of 4000 characters for each todo. So even if you can sync, some of your text will be truncated for larger text files. This goes for the iPod as well. I attempted to get around this with the Sync iCal ToDos script by having text files longer than 4000 characters break up into multiple todos. I'm still loooking for more people to try it out and give me advice and suggestions on how to improve it. Let me know what you think. » POSTED IN:
