syncing mail and there read status

Am I nutts and/or is there no way to be able to sync between two or more macs whether mail has been read or not on either of those macs? Also seeing as this is my first post I might as well start off being annoying, you were going to find out anyway, and ask two questions. Why is Imap better than pop?
