ADD/ADHT/ADT getting tested...

Hi guys,

Quick question for you... I'm thinking about getting tested for ADD etc., and was wondering if there is anything I should know. Particularly in regards to future work employment issues etc. Is there any negatives to getting labelled ADD? I don't want to dig myself into a hole that I might not be able to get out of. I've been functioning fairly well, but I'm pretty sure I know what the outcome of the tests will be. :)

I'm all ears! Hey, let's go ride bikes!

Returning the thread to the subject at hand...

I'm not ADHD, nor do I have medical training, but certified ADDers have told me:

MDs vary in their acceptance of the Adult ADHD diagnosis and their willingness to prescribe controlled drugs for the condition. Some will prescribe only nonstimulant drugs (e.g. Strattera). Some will diagnose and treat the condition in a single primary care visit; others will require extensive cognitive and psychological testing.

You'll need the testing if you require accommodations in school or the workplace, but if medication and your self-help efforts can get you by, you might want to pass on the $$ testing.
