Tricks for remembering names
Merlin Mann | Jul 10 2006
Following up on the earlier post about becoming a better listener, I get the feeling I'm not the only one with problems remembering peoples' names. So how about a few quick tips via Google for remembering names: From How to Remember Names (wittcom.com). Boy, do I ever need this one:

From: How to Remember Names - Free Name Remembering Tips (leadersinstitute.com):
From How to Remember Names by Tom Weber: The Sideroad (sideroad.com):
The tips from Real Simple -- ostensibly to help you remember names -- are mostly cool sneaks for weaseling out of having forgotten. Tacky, but clever, if you're a big chicken:

I found a different way...Submitted by Ali (not verified) on July 13, 2006 - 5:30am.
I found a different way to ask after a name you've forgotten about. Instead of doing the half-assed introduction (which only works if you have someone else there, anyway), ask them innocently, "How do you spell your name, again?" See, you didn't forget their name, you just want to make sure you know the correct version. If it's a name with variations (Sarah/Sara, Sean/Shawn/Shaun, etc.) then you should find it an almost imperceptible ploy. If it's a name with one standard spelling (Peter, David, etc.) and the person finds it weird you wouldn't know how to spell it, you can always make a little joke about all the different spellings people have these days, or say, "Oh, I had a friend who spelled it Piotr, so I just wanted to make sure I knew which way you preferred it." » POSTED IN:
