When 90% of my emails contain my todos

Hi, I've been a fan of GTD and have been using/trying to apply it for over a year now. I have a problem but first let me explain what I do: I work as an International Sales Representative ie. Agent/Broker for some industrial products, that is, I'm a bridge (middle man) between buyers in my country and sellers from overseas (big factories). Some facts from within my job are:
Problems are several:
To sum it up, I'm constantly getting behind with work, missing deadlines, neglecting important tasks from projects and hence, NOT getting things done. Can anyone give me an idea on how can I start organizing this? It seems easy or reasonable at first but once started, it gets out of control. Thanks. 8 Comments

are you solving the correct problemsSubmitted by dr.marty on October 21, 2007 - 8:30am.
If there are too many NAs or To-Dos in your life, there are too many and no system will create the trust that you're on top of things because - you'll have to face this issue - you'll never get on top of too much work. My experience, and that of my clients, is that too much is too much. The same idea applies to trying to GTDify everything in response to Too Much, and the urge to making increasingly elaborate, complicated, burdensome systems as if more overhead on top of too much work will produce a workable system that somehow will free you of the basic problem - too much work. Complicated simply doesn't work. So I would suggest before you ask about how to stay ahead of the problem that you ask if this is a problem that you can actually stay ahead of. The answer might be NO because it's not physically possible or because it's not in your DNA which people don't reasonably acknowledge. But its too easy to create problems simply because lack of external insight (too much work) or internal insight (I'm not programed to do this effectively) and applying GTD without insight is a recipe for burnout, or worse. Be well, Dr. Marty » POSTED IN:
