HDD Folder oranization

How is everyone organizing their electronic data? I started out years ago with MS Outlook and hit the 2G limit early on so I ended up having to archive data monthly which resulted in a folder structure based around monthly archives like this: 2006 So I started following this structure and would store other files such as bank statements, pictures, invoices, etc in those folders. Problem now is finding anything I have to wait for a search to crawl through all those folders or remember when I did something or have some sort of index to it. I usually end up just hunting through the various years and months looking for what I want rather than keeping an index up to date so I'm looking for better suggestions as to how to organize inportant files. 25 Comments

Buy anyway to get back...Submitted by enine on March 31, 2006 - 6:38am.
Buy anyway to get back to the original topic. It took my most of a weekend to reorganize my drive. I bought a 120g laptop drive and put it in my laptop then put the 60g that I had in the laptop before in an USB enclosure and copied all my data over. Got rid of all my yearly folders and organized the data better. Made a folder for music, one for picturs, one for documents and one for reference material. Music if of course music, all the cd's I have ripped into mp3's and the few mp3's I've had to download because the cd isn't available to buy. Puctures I moved all the pictures from the year/month folders into one big pictured folder then sorted by activity. Documents is all the documents I have created and projects I'm working on, reference is all the stuff someone else has written, be it books I have downloaded, web sites I have saved, whatever. » POSTED IN:
