What Do You Carry With You?

The "ideal bag for a mobile life style" raises the question, what tools do you carry with you?

It varies by what tools are necessary for you to do whatever it is you do, of course, but I think it's an interesting question.

I have two bags -- one small purse and the bag that carries my laptop. My purse can go in the laptop bag, or if I don't take my laptop, go alone. I'm going to list what I always carry with me after I do an inventory.

Anybody else?

For the past three years,...

For the past three years, I've been cycling to work four days a week. That's a good way of working out what you really need to be carrying!

I've now got the minimum down to: Two wallets (for money -- notes and coins -- and cards), the Palm and the mobile. I'd consider a smart phone if I used the phone more.

Off the bike, this goes into what we call my 'handbag' which also has a very small note pad, a torch, and a couple of pens.

On the bike, the basic four go into a plastic bag along with some pens, a multi-blade penknife and a monocular. I also need to carry a basic bike tool kit (spare tubes, pump and so on) in another plastic bag. These bags go into a pannier, leaving room for lunch, CDs, small amounts of shopping, dirty clothes coming home from work and so on.

Translator's note: I'm sure that there are transatlantic differences in some of these words! What I mean by the above is:

Wallet mainly contains money. Leather, pockets for notes (bills) and credit and debit cards. Both of mine have a separate section for coins.

mobile cellphone

torch flashlight

handbag as usually carried by women. Mine is leather and looks fairly non-feminine, but I still get the occasional comment!

...and why two wallets? One has 'my' money, the other 'ours'!

Cranking

This is an essay about family, priorities, and Shakey’s Pizza, and it’s probably the best thing he’s written. »
