Real-world 'Mission Statements:' What's yours?
Merlin Also | Mar 27 2006
Okay, I officially admit it. I think personal Mission Statements are goofy. There, I said it. Danny O'Brien says geeks seek out situations that allow them to act like robots; my corollary is that business guys tend to embrace things that let them behave like corporations. Both are silly. One's funny and endearing. The other is kind of weird and creepy. (/$0.02) So. My challenge to you: give me your _real world_ Mission Statement. NOT based on pie-in-the-sky, best-of-breed, net-net, top-of-mind, uplevel thinking, etc. etc. For real -- if past is truly prologue and your actual behavior were turned into a retrospective statement of purpose, what would yours be? And no bullshitting. Here's mine: Quote:
I will waste unbelievable amounts of time on trivial obsessions, drink generous portions of low-priced spirits, and spend the better part of every day listening to indie rock and typing about "Productivity." I will also watch "Family Guy" repeatedly on my TiVo. I will like Stewie best. Okay, now you. 17 Comments

Boku wa Tetsujin da yo!Submitted by Tetsujin on March 28, 2006 - 10:31am.
I will change jobs, careers, handwriting styles and/or favorite footwear every five to ten years. I will seek out and immerse myself in as much non-pharmaceutical mind-changing material as possible, starting with reading everything ever written by Robert Anton Wilson. I will watch large amounts of Japanese television, including sports dramas and teen romances that would elicit at best an eye-roll if they featured Americans and were set in the Long Island town where I grew up. I will learn enough Japanese to be dangerous. I will try several martial arts, finally finding the right one when I'm almost to old to start training. I will indulge my attraction to Buddhism but not reject the spiritual values in which I was raised. Through all of this I will remain faithful and loving to my family, and will at least try to remain pleasant most of the time. » POSTED IN:
