Best Tips on Finding the Job
Jamie Phelps | Aug 10 2007
OK, fellow boarders, I need your best tips on finding the job. Not just a job, but that job that you'd stay at forever if they'd let you. I'll be in IT if that helps shape your recs. Basically, I want your tips and resources for finding the job and for negotiating demands. Book recommendations are good, but I'm also interested in your anecdotal resources both from the job seeker and employee seeker (nee hiring manager) POV. 4 Comments

Get Nick Corcodilos' book "Ask The Headhunter" (http://www.asktheheadhunter.com/">http://tinyurl.com/27lwny to Amazon.com), peruse his articles at http://www.asktheheadhunter.com/, and subscribe to his newsletter. Basically, his advice is to find THE company you want to work for, make yourself known to the people there via networking, and when a position opens up, they'll think of you first. He also has a very strong interview strategy. In his view, the resume is a formality that is sent to HR after you've been hired. I've fortunately not been in a position where I've had to use his knowledge, but it makes total sense to me. Good luck! » POSTED IN:
