Dealing with Eating Disorders

help! My 12 y0 daughter has practically stopped eating, yet she insists that she does not have a problem. We have taken her to our family physician, a psychologist and a dietitian. Her mother and I are strongly considering admitting her into a specialized hospital program. Things are very stressful around mealtimes at home and we do not know how to handle this. any advice? 7 Comments

Like Daniel, I am in no way a physician. But my wife has an eating disorder from which she is recovering. She refuses to say she "used to" have an eating disorder; she says it's like alcoholism or any other addiction. From the horse's mouth if you will. What I would like to add is what I learned from my wife. Eating disorders are (at the risk of overstating it) never about food and appearance. They are always about control. Figure out what areas of her life she feels she has no power over and you are well on your way to recovery. Best wishes! » POSTED IN:
