I think that 49 podcasts is probably too many. If you are actually able to keep up with this many, you're probably listening all the time. Unless you have them humming away at some low-volume setting, only turning them up when you hear the whispers of something interesting. Otherwise, they're probably distracting you much more than they're worth.

I would highly recommend cutting that number down severely, or at least be harsh with the delete button by moderating via the show notes and personal recommendations. Most people I know who listen to podcasts do so only while they're driving or occupied with pure busy-work.

If you can't keep up comfortably (the number of podcasts in your download folder are growing and never shrinking), then that's another sure sign that you have too many.
