I need a text editor

I just moved back to Mac from administering Windows systems for years. Last time I had my beloved Mac was MacOS 8.5, so things have changed a bit since then.

I work with text every day doing coding. When I was on Windows, I fell in love with Textpad. Extremely powerful, easy to use. Just works exactly the way I want.

Now I'm on Mac again, and every single text editor I've tried has some deficiency in design that just irks me. I've now tried Textmate, SubEthaEdit, Simpletext, Textedit, and Textwrangler. I was particularly disappointed by TW, being a BBEdit product, which was always very good. For example, if I bring up the Find dialog box, I lose access to copying any other text from the main window. WHY?????

I even got Textpad working via Crossover, but its got wierd bugs that come from being emulated via Wine, plus its not fully integrated.

I just want a text editor that does what Textpad does. I just need something that works logically and powerfully, and doesn't have usage quirks that only persist because of some snarky Mac programmer who thinks his special way of handling a common find/replace function is the best in the world.

Anyone have some recommendations?

I'd be curious why TextMate...

I'd be curious why TextMate and SubEthaEdit don't cut the mustard for your uses. I haven't been able to find a situation where I found them lacking.
