Quicksilver: Current selection > Move to... does not remove from desktop.

Hi there!

Since I've seen Merlin's "undistracted mac" episode, I've been trying to keep my desktop empty as much as possible. I do, however, download stuff to the desktop: it's easy to access and forces me put things where they belong, instead of having them linger in some hidden away download folder.

To put things away, I've been trying to use the "Move to..." action in Quicksilver. However, while the action does copy the files to the designated place, it doesn't remove them from the desktop. When I try it from anywhere in the finder, it works like a charm.
Has anyone experienced this before? Could this be some permissions issue, or something?

Yours,
Andra

Haven't heard of this issue...

Haven't heard of this issue before. I just did a test run for me, and it worked like a charm. I'm running beta 51 build 3800. If you're on an older version, you might try bumping up to the latest beta. Direct download link.

If you move them to the same folders mostly, I highly recommend Hazel. It's one of those how-did-I-ever-get-by-without-this apps.

I'm running the same version. I let it update on launch, in the background, without asking. God, I love that option! I wish more software updated like that.

Hazel looks like a nifty tool, but it would kinda defeat my purpose. I regularly click on something to download, then surf on deciding I'll look at it later. If it's downloaded to a folder, I could forget about it. The desktop, which is otherwise empty, is the perfect place to remind me of files I've downloaded or other things I should act upon. A sort of ad hoc inbox, if you will. (No, I haven't taken the GTD-plunge yet, but I've read the book and am applying some of the techniques and theories)
Having an app move those files for me would hide things that I should see. Only after I've acted on them they can be deleted or moved, and often to varying places.

Yours,
Andra
