several accounts in Mac OS X

Hey there! I was wondering whether you've made any experiences with this: I set up different user accounts on my macbook (personal/admin/guest/uni) so that I could supposedly "focus" on my uni-work and "not be distracted" when working. Trying to create some sort of an "office-atmosphere" on my macbook so to speak... Turns out this is more difficult then I had thought. I keep finding articles, documents etcetera when surfing from my personal account that - ideally - I would like to transfer to my uni-account as quickly as possible and just keep it there. Any suggestions on how this could be handled better? Thanx a lot. Have a good day! Martin 5 Comments

me too!Submitted by historydoll on February 7, 2007 - 7:18am.
I have exactly the same problem (having done exactly the same thing for exactly the same reason:)) . I made the academic work account an administrator account, as is my regular account, thinking that I would thus automatically have permission in both accounts for everything, but it doesn't seem to work that way. I sometimes find that I can't copy a folder onto my external HD, for instance, because I don't have permission, or I can't download software in one or the other account because I don't have permission. Is there a way to set myself up so that both accounts have access to everything, or should I break down and go to something like Virtue Desktops?? (Yes, I know, Leopard is going to offer something similar, but I need to solve my problems before that.) » POSTED IN:
