Free (or at least way cheaper) DEVONThink alternative?

I rather like the idea of having a program to manage all my digital crap, since I suck at doing it myself. DEVONThink looks nice, but I just don't have that kind of money. I've been using Journler 2.0, but it's a bit clunky, particularly in how it does entries with tables. Yeek. Any recomendations? 19 Comments

I'm a pretty misty eyed DevonThink user. I like the program because: * It has (via a mature AppleScript implementation) a LOT of ways to capture content easily. Once you get things set up you'll find that with a keystroke (via MailActOn) you can pull mail into your db, you can grab bookmarks or webarchives (via bookmarklets, assigned to a command key), arbitrary text as plain or rtf (via systemwide keyboard shortcuts or quicksilver.) There are even a few sets of command line tools for search, capture and export. With a little bit of further customization you can build a bunch of input folders for diferent tasks and projects. * It understands enough fiile formats. While it would be great if it could read all coreData types, and that might be coming soon, txt, rtf, doc and pdf are enough. You can also drop in any other filetype you want and it will go into the devon archive/file repository. I keep all my files for work and research in devonthink, which makes backups easy, and keeps my organization out of the Finder (which I find repulsive.) * It support full screen editing and reading! * Other stuff. » POSTED IN:
