Free (or at least way cheaper) DEVONThink alternative?

I rather like the idea of having a program to manage all my digital crap, since I suck at doing it myself. DEVONThink looks nice, but I just don't have that kind of money. I've been using Journler 2.0, but it's a bit clunky, particularly in how it does entries with tables. Yeek.

Any recomendations?

You don't have to delete...

You don't have to delete something after you Import it into DT. I still keep all copies of documents in my Documents folder and then use DT for searching/viewing/doing whatever. I believe Indexing is good for keeping the database small however.

I use the "Add to Devonthink" script extensively from the contextual menu and use Quicksilver for moving files once they've been added to DT.

Actually, I spent some time looking at the tutorials on Devon Academy - and realized that I can have folders synchronize automatically. I suppose this can also work with smart folders, so this should solve the problem.

I've been trial using DT Personal up to now, and now I want to try the Professional edition to decide if it's worth it... but I can't find a way to import the database!

Cranking

Merlin used to crank. He’s not cranking any more.

This is an essay about family, priorities, and Shakey’s Pizza, and it’s probably the best thing he’s written. »
