Free (or at least way cheaper) DEVONThink alternative?

I rather like the idea of having a program to manage all my digital crap, since I suck at doing it myself. DEVONThink looks nice, but I just don't have that kind of money. I've been using Journler 2.0, but it's a bit clunky, particularly in how it does entries with tables. Yeek. Any recomendations? 19 Comments

For some time I have been circling Devonthink, trying to find a good way to use it. Thing is, I am not at all happy to commit all my files to Devonthink's closed database, and just dump all my research resources, drafts and finished papers in there. So I tried to use the index function instead - which raises the problem that I have to tag every new file, then add it to the repository on disk, then find it again and add it to the DT database. You don't have to delete something after you Import it into DT. I still keep all copies of documents in my Documents folder and then use DT for searching/viewing/doing whatever. I believe Indexing is good for keeping the database small however. I use the "Add to Devonthink" script extensively from the contextual menu and use Quicksilver for moving files once they've been added to DT. » POSTED IN:
