Oh my god. All of my Address Book contacts disappeared

I recently had to force quit Mail.app. When I reopened it, I went to send a buddy an email. When I went to look up his email address, I discovered that ALL of my contacts were deleted from Address Book.

I have no current backup, and am freaking out. The only solution I can find on the Internet from other people is restoring a backup from .mac, which I don't have and can't do. Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks for the advice. None of these files can be imported. Also, I open them in TextEdit, but they just seem to be gibberish. Should they be more easily readable?
