IMAP issues in Mail.app: fixes, perhaps

I just gathered a list of links for a customer who is having problems with Mail.app and its handling of IMAP folders. I thought I'd archive it here, in case anyone has the problem at some time:

I have a better one.

Put the mailboxes you care about into a new directory.

Set that directory to be your folder root.

That linking things to /dev/null hack doesn't always work.
