What I love about Quicksilver

Let me count the ways:

1. The Shelf. 'nuff said.
2. Comma trick.
3. Access to my bookmarks without having a browser open.
4. I can look up any word in one keystroke.
5. cmd-esc.
6. Composing simple email.
7. Text manipulation.
8. Clipboard mania.

oh, and 9. Launching programs.

I'm sure there are many others but these are the main reasons I could not imagine having a Mac without Quicksilver.

Mmm...I'd say I agree, just because I love quicksilver, but I have to admit that I don't make any use of your number 1 feature at all - the shelf. I'm not even sure I know what it is beyond something I can make appear on my screen. What are some practical examples of how you use the shelf?

Ahh, you must have not ever used NeXTStep or OpenStep! Don't fret, not a lot of people have!

The Shelf in QuickSilver is a place you can Drop Stuff. Suppose you're in the finder and you want to move a group of things somewhere like a new folder. Drag those items onto the shelf. Go to the folder in the Finder you want to make a new folder. Make a new folder called My New Project, go to the shelf and drag those items into My New Project's folder.

Cranking

Merlin used to crank. He’s not cranking any more.

This is an essay about family, priorities, and Shakey’s Pizza, and it’s probably the best thing he’s written. »

Scared Shitless

Merlin’s scared. You’re scared. Everybody is scared.

This is the video of Merlin’s keynote at Webstock 2011. The one where he cried. You should watch it. »
