Landscaping/Architectural Software

One of my projects is totally changing the landscape of our house, since our shady tree is dying and we're soon going to lose all of our plants that love deep shade and end up in full sun.

Windoze has programs where you can take a picture of your house, then try different types of landscape plants, etc. around it, even seeing how it will all look after a few years when things have grown. But I haven't found anything like that for the Mac.

Windoze even had a program once that did minor architectural changes to your home, as well. Ex: You could change the types of windows and see how it would look.

Does anything like this exist for the Mac?

Interesting that you would ask here, at the 43 Folders Board. I don't know of anymore consumer level programs either. There used to be some but not any more.

A click on "architecture" here: http://guide.apple.com/uscategories/business.lasso
will yield many pro level products and a few less expensive options.

CADintosh, by the Graphic Converter folks, is basic and inexpensive.
MacDraft PE, is a bit more robust.
And SketchUp might be the most creative fun you can have on a computer; there is an 8 hour (cumulative use) demo and some great tutorials. I'm sure they have sold some product just because it's fun to play with (but it is $495, unless you are a teacher or student).

But, would you let your dentist replace the windshield in your car, or your mechanic realign your teeth? Your house is likely your biggest investment. You might want to consider hiring a pro to help you make decisions that will improve the appearance and quality of your house, and I don't mean the ones at Home Depot.

This is an essay about family, priorities, and Shakey’s Pizza, and it’s probably the best thing he’s written. »
