Not Quite OSX, but...

I figure this is as good a place as any to ask. A friend gave me an old iMac. I keep hearing about how great Macs are, but I can't really afford one right now, so I took the free old one. It's running OS 8.6. Is there anything I can do with it, or any place I can get software (freeware)for it? I can't even install iTunes on this thing. Most Mac users I talk to say I need OSX, but that's not really an option (at least not a purchase option). Is this just a colorful desk ornament? 12 Comments

I found a site called "OS 9 Forever", but the person running it finally flipped to OSX. I hope you guys don't mind a few questions. If I didn't give the background, this iMac was given to me by a friend. He wanted to get rid of it, and a mac is out of my range right now, so I figured I'd take a free one. I might have a hook up for OSX coming soon. Is there a browser that will run on OS9? I had downloaded IE 5.1 for OS 8.6, and after I put 9.2.2 on this weekend I went back to see if I could get IE 6 for Mac, but I found that MS no longer maintains Internet Exploder for Mac. It looks like Safari and Firefox both require OSX. I use Maxthon on my PCs, and I love it, but I don't think it has a Mac version. » POSTED IN:
