MyLifeOrganized for GTD
Terrence Randell | Mar 27 2006
I haven't seen any mentions of MyLifeOrganized (MLO) for implementing GTD, so I thought I'd drop a post on ya. I futzed with a ton of software and paper implementations until settling on MLO. It's a VERY lightweight app. Works off a USB drive or full install and has lots of hot keys to add new projects, tasks, sub-tasks and has a wicked cool rapid entry dialog box that you can quickly dash off new thoughts into your digital GTD inbox. The niftiest feature is the "ToDo" list. I know, that's a dirty phrase in GTD land, but give 'em a break. You create your master outline holding your contexts, projects, tasks, sub-tasks and what not. Then you can define how long each item might take to do and you switch over to the ToDo list to see what you can do for your appropriate context. Have only 10 minutes? Filter down to see what can be done in 10 minutes. Download the free version and mess around. It has most of the features of the standard and pro editions. They also have a pretty active board for MLO-specific issues with some GTD flavor here and there. Product Page: http://www.mylifeorganized.net/products/my-life-organized/how-it-works.htm 13 Comments

An update on MLO's latest...Submitted by randellt on August 18, 2006 - 9:47pm.
An update on MLO's latest features and coverage of an old feature. Two new features of MLO (as of a few versions back actually) I find very helpful are 1. Task links: They are not pretty but you can insert hyperlink-like beasties in tasks to easily switch between them. I typically keep a link to the parent project in the notes section of all child tasks for easy location when I move things around. 2. Notes and task properties on one page: two.olive's previous wish of seeing this happen did and it makes viewing and editing even faster. An old feature worth mentining is the support for task prefixes or postfixes. This makes implementing the PigPog method exceedingly easy. Here's how. First you select task prefixes or postfixes (your choice) in the options menu. Now, let's say you have a project named "Buy a new car" and you have several NAs identified already, the first one being "Write a list of cars I like". Tick off the "complete subtasks in order" and "This is a project" box on the "Buy a new car" parent task and when you switch over to the "To Do" view you will see "Write a list of cars I like { Buy a new car }". This makes it really easy to associate NAs and projects without a lot of flipping back and forth. » POSTED IN:
