(Sorry, mindfulness.) Okay, maybe this is a dumb idea, but I've been trying to be more mindful and self-aware throughout my everyday life, particularly recently as I have been both overeating and been easily overwhelmed by various work/career stresses. It's hard to remember to be mindful. Along the lines of the (10+2)*5 procrastination hack (search on 43folders if you don't know it) I've thought, what I want is a little, discrete automatic mindfulness reminder device. Look at this: The idea: small vibrating alarm timer that will go off every 15 minutes or so, that I can keep in my pocket or on my wrist or smth. like that. Dumb? Maybe. Anyone have any thoughts on this? 7 Comments

One Zen teacher I know offered this mindfulness hack: choose just one action that occurs regularly throughout the day to do with complete mindfulness. Anything will do: washing your hands, opening your car door, hanging up the phone. Whatever it is, just be with that one action and don't let your mind wander to the past or future for those few seconds that it takes to accomplish it. It really wakes you up. Then when doing this particular action has become ingrained as a mindful habit, add one more action. » POSTED IN:
