LOFI Next Action Lists

I asked how people handle NAs in the GTD area, but I realized what I'm specifically looking for are paper-based ways of keeping lists. Do you keep them on individual sheets of paper in folders, or what?

I'm combining LOFI and records on my Mac, but I'm a paper planner user from way back and am kind of ingrained that way, plus I always have it with me.

Thanks.

My paper system

I just wish there were more examples of "systems" to learn from. For example, I'd really like to know how somebody used it as a "paper only/lofi" system. Not that I'll be totally paper only, but it would be helpful!

You might look in on the AnalogGTD Yahoo Group and ask for some examples. Deb, who runs the group, lives on index cards.

My system is built around paper, because I'm a fountain pen user. I've just got to have paper so I can play with my toys! Every system is different, but here's what I do:

  • I have a 5.5 x 8.5 inch 3-ring binder (bought for something like US$2) with printed templates from www.diyplanner.com.
  • Most of the useful stuff is "Notes" pages, which I use for collection, activity logs, reference notes, and all that good stuff.
  • Larger projects get their own "Project Outline" pages, while smaller projects go on a list, only four to a page. This lets me write a real outcome for each project.
  • Projects with lots of support material get folders in my alphabetized filing drawer. E-mails used as support material live in an Actions folder in Outlook.
  • Add monthly calendars and "Weekly Planning" pages to keep up with scheduled events, and that's about it for the day-to-day stuff. The rest is Someday/Maybe and reference.
While I keep my actual next-action lists in a Word document, that's just so they'll be neater than keeping pages of handwritten lists for my various contexts.
