Due Dates on Tasks

Does anyone manage to effectively use due dates on tasks? I keep feeling the urge to assign them, even a range of dates. Pocket Informant uses those effectively, and will show any tasks active for a day on the calendar view. I know David Allen says this is forbidden in GTD, but I'm sure it works for someone.

I put due dates on...

I put due dates on school tasks mostly. Homework assignments, papers, presentations and the like. Other than that, I'll get to it when I get to it.
