Peer-to-Peer compensation in the office

I was chatting with some people today about a program we have at my office that everyone I work with loves.

We are empowered to give on-the-spot awards to our coworkers without management approval for up to USD$50.

I had never encountered this program before, but apparently nobody else has ever heard of it, so I wrote it up on my website for those to share with their HR departments or senior management if they're interested.

I work in management consulting with a focus on strategic culture change, and recognition programs come up time and time again as "low-hanging fruit" that organizations can quickly address and see quick improvement. I am insanely curious about where you work now, but I will quell my curiousity and just ask how large your workplace is. :) I've only seen it implemented in very large, global organizations.

I think peer-to-peer programs are fantastic for creating workgroup cohesiveness, especially since it's so often about the recognition of a job well done or the acknowledgment of having gone the extra mile that is important, not the money associated with it.

Cranking
