Filing systems (or cd storage solution)

I'm currently coming up with a way to store my CDs (burnt copies either of misc stuff or file backups and pressed originals, music or games) since I have so many of them. I was considering some kind of implementation of the noguchi filing system (http://www.lise.jp/a/noguchi.html). Instead of wasting money on the yellow envelopes that would hold the cd's awkwardly, I have instead started placing all my cds in the paper cd envelopes, then binding groups of 10-15 of them with rubber bands, numbering each group and listing the contents of that group in a txt file named "@cdindex". My plan is then when I find I need a cd from say group 1, I remove it and place group 1 back on the shelf in the same place it was, then when I am done using the cd I place it back into the most recent group, say group 3 and modify @cdindex to reflect this change. Over a period of a few weeks, I would hope for this noguchi effect of cds I never use gradually working their way to the left side.

The only problem I foresee is by using a computer list this way, when I search it for something I need (say my copy of diablo 2. Did I say "need"?) some other file in another group (a snl skit like lazy sunday or something equally worthless) may catch my eye and distract me into using it whereas I normally wouldn't have. Also, I'm not sure what effect these white envelopes will have on the health of the cds themselves.

What do you all think? What are some of your cd storage solutions?

This is an essay about family, priorities, and Shakey’s Pizza, and it’s probably the best thing he’s written. »
