Anyone else having problems replying to emails?
Laura M. | Oct 26 2005
I'm so bad replying to emails. They just keep piling. I read them the moment they come, but something keeps me from replying or acting on them. How do you deal with emails? Do having specific blocks of time devoted to email writing works for you? How you balance replying to emails with the other parts of your work? Is anyone using Groupwise for your emails? Any tips for using it? The new version is able to attach labels to the emails and changes the color of the header accordingly. Now I have a very colorful inbox but as full as before. 41 Comments

Laura, Smart Folders are an extremely useful feature -- they're not exclusive to Mac mail software; I know Thunderbird and Outlook both have similar features, though they may be called 'Search Folders'. A Smart/Search Folder is a dynamically updated folder - you set one or more criteria ('all mails with attachments'; 'all mails flagged urgent', 'all mails with X in the subject') and then every time you open the Smart Folder, it shows you /all/ your emails that match the rules you've specified, regardless of where you've actually stored them. It means you can largely do away with complicated archival structures - between Smart Folders and a good search algorithm, all one really needs these days is a big old storage bucket. » POSTED IN:
