Wardrobe Hacks
otterhound | Apr 23 2006
I'm working on a minimalist, utilitarian wardrobe. I don't want to have to think about dressing and I don't want to help a dry cleaner with his car payments. I am lucky to be able to dress as I like, within reason. I live in a hot climate (Dallas), where we recently enjoyed some lovely 100 degree April days. My current thinking is to go to 100% khakis and plain white t-shirts. Short sleeve in summer, long sleeve in winter. Boring, yes, but totally inoffensive. I can keep the t-shirts nice by simply bleaching them and trying to keep them relatively unwrinkled. The khaki's can similarly be maintained somewhat unwrinkled and be fine. Are any of you doing wardrobe hacks? 35 Comments

Generally the price of the shirt will determine how much it shrinks, but in all generalizations you can't bet the bank on it! But cheap cotton t-shirts usually shrink a lot more than good ones, and I think the American Apparel are supposed to be pretty good. This may sound like overkill, but choose one t-shirt to stay looking "new," wash it and iron it (with spray starch, even) and hang it up nicely in the closet. Forget about it. One of these days you'll be happy to snatch a very crisp new-looking t-shirt off the hanger to wear to work, or wherever, when you need to look good and don't have time to do much more. That's when the blazer or jacket comes in handy, too, of course. » POSTED IN:
