Wardrobe Hacks

I'm working on a minimalist, utilitarian wardrobe.

I don't want to have to think about dressing and I don't want to help a dry cleaner with his car payments.

I am lucky to be able to dress as I like, within reason. I live in a hot climate (Dallas), where we recently enjoyed some lovely 100 degree April days.

My current thinking is to go to 100% khakis and plain white t-shirts. Short sleeve in summer, long sleeve in winter.

Boring, yes, but totally inoffensive. I can keep the t-shirts nice by simply bleaching them and trying to keep them relatively unwrinkled. The khaki's can similarly be maintained somewhat unwrinkled and be fine.

Are any of you doing wardrobe hacks?

Color Blind

I am color blind. So for me there are few choices. I also have an assisstant who has been with me for a while, and she lets me know when I have made a mistake.

I keep clothes at the office.

So I limit my purchases to specific things, for example...I wear a ton of phat farm shirts for daily teaching and office work, because I met and worship Russell Simmons. Plus I live in the same town as Eastbay, and we get it cheap.

So I wear those, and black and grey t shirts when I am casual.

I have it down to about 5 paid of jeans that rotate. 2 black, three blue.

I really want to be a clothes guy, but honestly the punk rock kid in me wont give up the fight.

I also basically wear whatever my assisstant pick out when I am presenting a paper or speaking formally at a conferance.

as far as shoes go...this is a science for me. I only wear Havana Joe shoes for dress shoes. They are really durable, heavy, thick bottoms. So even if I am at the transmitter or climbing a tower, I am okay.

For casual, I wear DC shoes. I have found them to be the most durable of this type of shoe, and most conducive to a 35 year old guy.

In the summer I wear Teva sandals, rather than Birks, because of the durability and I think Birks would fall off.

I wear a Casio Dive watch, or a Nixon Super Rover. Both water proof so I can swim or shower in them and not worry about it. The casio being inspired by Ed Harris in the Abyss. The Nixon because I have a crush on Tina Basich.

I own one baseball cap, though I have been given many. A yankees cap that has been bought and rebought for a few generations.

In the winter I have a Volcom beanie. That goes with my Carhart work coat, as it is durable, and really warm and has been with me for 100 years. I also wear ranch gloves.

I am babbling.

This is an essay about family, priorities, and Shakey’s Pizza, and it’s probably the best thing he’s written. »
