Wardrobe Hacks

I'm working on a minimalist, utilitarian wardrobe.

I don't want to have to think about dressing and I don't want to help a dry cleaner with his car payments.

I am lucky to be able to dress as I like, within reason. I live in a hot climate (Dallas), where we recently enjoyed some lovely 100 degree April days.

My current thinking is to go to 100% khakis and plain white t-shirts. Short sleeve in summer, long sleeve in winter.

Boring, yes, but totally inoffensive. I can keep the t-shirts nice by simply bleaching them and trying to keep them relatively unwrinkled. The khaki's can similarly be maintained somewhat unwrinkled and be fine.

Are any of you doing wardrobe hacks?

The other hack that makes my life easier is to wear a lot of black! I'm getting a little tired of it and so it everyone around me, but it's soooo easy!

If you can find the right shade, you could try adding some brown -- of course, there are some Ugly browns out there. It's especially handy if you don't like wearing light shirts and such.

We are currently trimming down the amount of clothes that we have. Three boxes have already gone to goodwill. I finally retired all of my husband's shirts that he bought when he graduated from college in '96/'97. (Obviously, we aren't too big on current fashions.)

One of the things that I did to simplify my daily wardrobe was agree to wear one of the uniform tops that our techs wear even though I'm in the office and rarely see clients. It's not the cheapest of options -- $3/week to the uniform company -- but I don't have to wash them or hang them or think about what I'm going to wear, as long as I have clean jeans or khakis to go with them.

I think I need to check out LLBean. We really should get rid of some more of the clothes that we bought 5 years or more ago.

Cranking

Merlin used to crank. He’s not cranking any more.

This is an essay about family, priorities, and Shakey’s Pizza, and it’s probably the best thing he’s written. »
