Wardrobe Hacks

I'm working on a minimalist, utilitarian wardrobe.

I don't want to have to think about dressing and I don't want to help a dry cleaner with his car payments.

I am lucky to be able to dress as I like, within reason. I live in a hot climate (Dallas), where we recently enjoyed some lovely 100 degree April days.

My current thinking is to go to 100% khakis and plain white t-shirts. Short sleeve in summer, long sleeve in winter.

Boring, yes, but totally inoffensive. I can keep the t-shirts nice by simply bleaching them and trying to keep them relatively unwrinkled. The khaki's can similarly be maintained somewhat unwrinkled and be fine.

Are any of you doing wardrobe hacks?

I have this image from...

I have this image from various TV shows where the detectives go into the house of the suspected serial killer and look in his closet; they see that all his clothes are neatly hung on hangers that are evenly spaced, and every outfit is the same. That's what I picture.

I have trouble dressing too and would love to find a hack for it, but unfortunately clothing is an expression of who you are and I think that it should change as you change, even from day to day. That doesn't mean that khakis and white t-shirts are bad, just not how I would choose to do it.

One hack that I have used my whole life is hanging my clothes by type and then within that type by color. All pants are together, all shirts are together, and then from light to dark with that category. I also keep sporty stuff together, and work stuff together, sweaters together, and t-shirts together. The other hack that makes my life easier is to wear a lot of black! I'm getting a little tired of it and so it everyone around me, but it's soooo easy!

This is an essay about family, priorities, and Shakey’s Pizza, and it’s probably the best thing he’s written. »
