Tracking business mileage

Does anyone have tips on tracking automobile mileage for business deduction? I have of course thought of keeping a notepad in the car as a log, but I forget to write trips down and since I have my computer with me pretty much all the time, I sometimes end up doing business work when I didn't expect to and therefore didn't plan to write it down? Any tips would be greatly appreciated. 6 Comments

The advice I had heard was that records need to be rather meticulous. Which car you drove, where you went, why, number of miles, date, etc. Is this similar to advice you all have heard from tax pros or not? » POSTED IN:
