What about little or no will to do things?
Ferrante | Mar 27 2006
Hi everybody, I was wondering if someone has ever experienced this kind of "chronic fatigue" or simply put, lack of will or energy to do simple things. My current status: I work as a CIO for two countries in a big company. I have a strong technical background (more than 15 years) and now I have to deal with many different problems (specially company politics), aside of pure technical situations. My main problem, as I mentioned before, is the chronic lack of energy to do things apart from my job. I always wanted to learn french and german or to read more books (I used to read 4 or 5 books a month), but when I get home, I don?t want to do anything but rest. I?ve tried everything: meditation, medication, exercise (I do some workout regularly), 8-hour sleep cycles, balanced food, etc., but nothing seems to work, or at least, to have lasting effects. Lately, I?ve been experiencing concentration and lack of focus problems, which is bad for my job. It seems that the problem is starting to affect my work as well. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. 30 Comments

Ferrante, the others have mentioned depression, but you didn't, so I'm wondering whether you have considered that. What you describe sounds very much like clinical depression. Either way, if you haven't seen a doctor (or seen a good doctor), you really should. I also wonder how you are feeling emotionally, and whether the solution to the problem is not going to be motivational techniques or clarifying your goals, but sorting out your emotions about the job, etc. If I say to you, "Do you feel loved, supported, and nurtured in your daily life?", what's your immediate reaction to that? If it's not positive, you might want to follow up on the emotional aspect. If you've got emotional "stuff" clogging up your brain, emotional open loops, etc, your capacity to do things is diminished by that just as much as it is by all the other stuff. To me, Flylady is a necessary addition to the Allen/Covey mix because Flylady is a very emotion-centred approach. In truth I can barely stomach it most days, so this isn't a recommendation, but it does have methods for getting the emotional stuff sorted on a really fundamental level, and when I can feel loved, supported, etc, that gives me far greater capacity to get things done. » POSTED IN:
