43Folders.com is Merlin Mann’s website about finding the time and attention to do your best creative work.

Happier

I recently heard Tal Ben-Shahar on NPR's Diane Rehm show.
He wrote Happier: Learn the Secrets to Daily Joy and Lasting Fulfillment
Tal teaches "Positive Psychology," one of the most popular courses at Harvard University. From the show, I gathered one bottom line was to try not to do too much: simplify. You can see how this might apply to Harvard students.
I suspect this applies to many of us who are looking for magic bullets to solve our GTD issues. Here are a few links:

The book at Amazon
The book at 43 Folders bookstore (though I've found no mention of the book anywhere else on the 43 Folders site)

Thanks for the pointer. I...

Thanks for the pointer. I like the work these folks are doing. I was exposed to it via Martin Seligman's book "Learned Optimism: How to Change Your Mind and Your Life". It's a fascinating look at what makes different people happy, and how anyone can adopt the fundamentals for improvement. As I recall, there are three key dimensions of self-talk:

1. Temporary and changeable versus permanent and fixed.
2. About a specific area of their lives as opposed to something global and general.
3. Influenced by an external source as opposed to blaming themselves for an internal defect.

(This from "It's Hard to Make a Difference When You Can't Find Your Keys" by Marilyn Paul.)

Cranking

Merlin used to crank. He’s not cranking any more.

This is an essay about family, priorities, and Shakey’s Pizza, and it’s probably the best thing he’s written. »

Scared Shitless

Merlin’s scared. You’re scared. Everybody is scared.

This is the video of Merlin’s keynote at Webstock 2011. The one where he cried. You should watch it. »
