Projects, esp. someday/maybe
pooks | Dec 26 2006
This probably should go in the lofi discussion, but I decided to put it here so people can share various methods. I've just returned from the office supply store where I picked up a couple of thousand index cards. (I'm going to be using them for various projects, not just this.) For the first time I feel like I can get a better handle on my "projects," because I intend to put a single project on each index card and file in my card file. A 3x5 just feels so much more compact and manageable to me, especially those things I can't work on right now. I haven't decided exactly how to organize them. Probably by contexts -- @ home (projects to be done around the house), will be kept separate from projects like @ family (things I want to do for my mom or kids) or whatever. I already have separate file drawers for my work -- writing and teaching, so I guess they'll each have their own collection of someday/maybe cards at the back, too. Anybody else? 8 Comments

Sorry to jump in late...Submitted by mdl on January 15, 2007 - 10:34am.
Sorry to jump in late on this one, but I thought I'd share my reflections: For a variety of reasons (portability, ease of review), I've tried very hard to make the standard hipsterPDA project and action lists work for me. But in the end, I find it much more flexible and organic to go with the one card per project method. For whatever reason, my brain functions better if I can see the larger context for each action (i.e., remember why I'm doing it and what I need to do afterwards). And it's wonderful to be able to put important project information (addresses, phone numbers, notes, etc.) on the back of the index card. Above all, I've found that the relative chaos of a constantly resorted stack better reflects the frequent changes of my work/priorities than static project lists. So yes, I do lug around 50+ project cards, sorted by context. But usually in the morning I put priorities down on a daily list. » POSTED IN:
