Projects, esp. someday/maybe
pooks | Dec 26 2006
This probably should go in the lofi discussion, but I decided to put it here so people can share various methods. I've just returned from the office supply store where I picked up a couple of thousand index cards. (I'm going to be using them for various projects, not just this.) For the first time I feel like I can get a better handle on my "projects," because I intend to put a single project on each index card and file in my card file. A 3x5 just feels so much more compact and manageable to me, especially those things I can't work on right now. I haven't decided exactly how to organize them. Probably by contexts -- @ home (projects to be done around the house), will be kept separate from projects like @ family (things I want to do for my mom or kids) or whatever. I already have separate file drawers for my work -- writing and teaching, so I guess they'll each have their own collection of someday/maybe cards at the back, too. Anybody else? 8 Comments

I generally do something similar. I use the DIY HPDA "Potential Project" card with a graph on the back (pages 42 & 84 in the 1-up format, for those playing at home). Instead of keeping the projects organized by contexts, I keep them organised by 20,000-50,000 levels. I find that helps me think through why I want to do my Someday/Maybe projects. If I find it hard to figure out where a project fits into my areas of focus, my goals, or my general life vision, then it's probably going to stay as a Someday/Maybe forever. When I have a Someday/Maybe that really easily fits into my dreams for my future, then I have a much easier time in moving forward. Or at least, that's the theory. I was really sick for much of 2006, so it was harder to focus on anything above ground level. Even the 10 000 ft (project) level felt overwhelming for a while. Things are getting better, though. I find myself up at night writing lists and dreaming dreams again. » POSTED IN:
