Tickler or Calendar
juman | Oct 13 2006
I am slowly building my way up to a blackbelt but one thing I haven't really got going for me is if I should use the ticklerfile or the calendar for some things. Booking a meeting is of course something for the calendar but going through some papers the day before the meeting where should they go? I have to go through them before the meeting but not exactely the day before but it is nice to have a full day to make sure I get the time to go through them. This is one case and whatever it is I am thinking about putting into the tickler I find myself putting more and more as events into a calendar which give me an easier overview. So when doing a weekly plan if I see that my Tuesday is getting to much work in it I can easier see what I have to review that day and see if I can move them. Any ideas and thoughts about this? What do you put in your tickler or what goes into your calender as an event to do on a specific day? 18 Comments

Like the others, I really...Submitted by Paul on October 16, 2006 - 2:24pm.
Like the others, I really frequently forget to check my tickler file, although I still use it some of the time. Here's an example: 1. Weeks ago, an offsite meeting was scheduled for tomorrow. The meeting request was sent in Outlook, the agenda is in a separate e-mail. I'll accept the Outlook meeting, print the agenda (I won't be running my laptop during the meeting), and put the agenda into the tickler file for the 17th. If and when I check my tickler file, I'll remove the agenda and put it in my "Travel" folder (which carriers paper stuff I need on the go). That way I didn't have to add it to the travel folder and carry it around for weeks. I've also had tickets to sporting events, etc., that I've put in the tickler file for the day of the game (weekday games that I go to from work). My problem is that these kind of events, where there is a piece of paper closely associated with a date, are pretty infrequent. If they happened more often, checking the tickler would become habit. As it is, I've often panicked for a few minutes wondering where I put my stuff before remembering the tickler. Not quite mind like water, yet... » POSTED IN:
