Tickler or Calendar
juman | Oct 13 2006
I am slowly building my way up to a blackbelt but one thing I haven't really got going for me is if I should use the ticklerfile or the calendar for some things. Booking a meeting is of course something for the calendar but going through some papers the day before the meeting where should they go? I have to go through them before the meeting but not exactely the day before but it is nice to have a full day to make sure I get the time to go through them. This is one case and whatever it is I am thinking about putting into the tickler I find myself putting more and more as events into a calendar which give me an easier overview. So when doing a weekly plan if I see that my Tuesday is getting to much work in it I can easier see what I have to review that day and see if I can move them. Any ideas and thoughts about this? What do you put in your tickler or what goes into your calender as an event to do on a specific day? 18 Comments

I too chucked the tickler...Submitted by mdl on October 13, 2006 - 6:42am.
I too chucked the tickler because I was forgetting to check it daily. I also wanted a more portable solution. So much for the 43 folders! But I still wanted some way to retain a distinction between my hard landscape (stuff that HAS to be done on a particular day) and calendar reminders (action triggers, upcoming events and deadlines, possible activities, etc.). So instead of the tickler, I mark tickler reminders on my calendar with capital letters (A, B, C, and so on), putting the reminders connected with each letter on the back of the monthly calendar: A - start working on job application So each day, I see a few letters (say H & N) and look at the back of the calendar to see the reminders. I can also use codes to mark recurring reminders on my calendar. In general, I like the distinction between hard actions (calendar) and "soft" reminders (tickler). John's birthday party at 7 pm on 10/20 would go on the calendar. A reminder to buy a gift for John would be a tickler item placed several days before the birthday party. » POSTED IN:
