Tickler or Calendar
juman | Oct 13 2006
I am slowly building my way up to a blackbelt but one thing I haven't really got going for me is if I should use the ticklerfile or the calendar for some things. Booking a meeting is of course something for the calendar but going through some papers the day before the meeting where should they go? I have to go through them before the meeting but not exactely the day before but it is nice to have a full day to make sure I get the time to go through them. This is one case and whatever it is I am thinking about putting into the tickler I find myself putting more and more as events into a calendar which give me an easier overview. So when doing a weekly plan if I see that my Tuesday is getting to much work in it I can easier see what I have to review that day and see if I can move them. Any ideas and thoughts about this? What do you put in your tickler or what goes into your calender as an event to do on a specific day? 18 Comments

I tried using a tickler file, but I found that I kept forgetting to check it daily. I now create all-day events in my calendar for tickler items, as well as a note as where I've filed the support material (Everything gets filed in my A-Z file). I treat my calendar as sacred territory - only items that must be done at a specific date/time go on it. Everything else is on my next action lists. For me, the fewer tools I use, the better. Too much was falling through the cracks when I had to check a tickler file every day. This sounds more like how I actually do things in the end. I find that my tickler is turning more and more into a reference material place and for the moment I think it is overkill. It is actually too big so I am looking for some smaller portable folder to put it all into instead. And then if I go fully to my calendar I can just keep the reference material with me... » POSTED IN:
