To Be Read

I have discovered that I am happiest and most likely to use any system when it is either visible or within reach or both. If it requires me to get up from my desk/chair, I'm more likely to lay it on the floor beside me until I'm ready to move (ha!) or lay it on my desk until I'm ready to move (ha-ha!).

So as I examine my desk and environs, one thing I'm noticing is the amount of things that I have that are TBR (to be read) that are somewhat time sensitive, rather than just my books that are waiting for me to have time or the right mood to dig in. Some of these things are rather bulky (scripts) and others are just magazines or newsletters that have info I need to see or act on, along with typical stuff. Often too much for an in-basket.

How do you handle this kind of thing? And any tricks for actually getting around to reading it?

I agree--if something needs to...

I agree--if something needs to be read (as opposed to "I could read it if I wanted to") it goes on a next action list. For instance: "Read the chapter of his book that my father sent me" goes in "watching TV" (hey, I'm a multitasker) and it's waiting on the reading shelf in the living room. Short articles, newsletters, etc. I usually read quickly when they arrive.

Cranking

Merlin used to crank. He’s not cranking any more.

This is an essay about family, priorities, and Shakey’s Pizza, and it’s probably the best thing he’s written. »
