Help me stick to it

I flout my GTD, all the time. I'm currently having real difficulties following my GTD routine and because of this i'm letting things slip. I've recently been getting home from work and not doing anything at all, flouting my next actions and deciding what to do there and then (which usually involves playing games or watching TV). Today i'm sat in work and i don't even have a copy of my NA's or my moleskine to hand, i've left them abandoned at home in my bag. I love GTD but i'm having great difficulty applying myself to it. Has anyone got any suggestions which may help me stick to my routine? 34 Comments

In addition to the good advice that's already been given... one thing I haven't seen mentioned is that you sound like you're guilting out over free time. You're allowed to have fun and free time! GTD is a way to maximize your productivity, not ensure that you're working 24/7. I think that's a point that gets lost in GTD sometimes, since a) it naturally appeals to workaholics and highly motivated people and b) Allen recommends merging home and work tasks when it comes to next actions lists. flexiblefine wrote:
I wonder if GTD works better for people with a fair amount of hard landscape stuff. When our time doesn't come in "weird windows," we face this problem. I have almost zero "hard landscape" but a million little things to tend to in different areas of responsibility because I run a small online business. Personally GTD has been a been a lifesaver. I almost feel like GTD is more valuable for low-hard-landscape types. Though evidentally not all of us feel that way. :) » POSTED IN:
