Anyone doing GTD with GMail?
mmchicago | Apr 26 2006
I'm pretty impressed with how well GMail lends itself to GTD (as outlined in this post), but I'm really wondering how other people get around the problem of portablility. Do you simply manually sync to an offline source for contexts that should be offline? This seems pretty labor intensive to me, but appears to be the only option when using GMail. Anyone else have any experiences to share about GTDw/GMail? Best, 4 Comments

I use GMail with my GTD, but it's not my sole tool. For example, I have three labels in GMail that tie into GTD: @waiting is what I label email that I send out that needs a response back from someone. @someday/maybe is for email that comes in that relates to something I might find interesting in the future. This is instead of me noting the information in my trusted system. Just easier to keep it in email. (That's because I only look at my @someday/maybe once a month, so it's no big deal for me to look at two-three different @someday/maybe places.) @readme is where my Google search alerts go, or emails related to papers I want to read. There's not a lot in there; I just don't want to cut and paste and put it in my trusted system. So, I guess I'm kind of duplicating things a bit, but I find it works for me. At the very least, I would always keep a @waiting label. » POSTED IN:
