Today is my wife's birthday. She realised part way through the day that I hadn't given her a present she knew I'd bought.

We were out together and she decided she liked a jacket in Marks and Spencer, and since they have a nasty habit of removing stock from sale even when it's only been there for a week or two, we decided that I'd buy it there and then and save it for her birthday.

Last night, she's out with some friends, and I go back to my list of next actions for her birthday - each of which is a present to buy. I gather them all up from where they're hidden, wrap them, and put them in a pile for this morning. WITHOUT the jacket. I'd got sufficiently into trusting the system that when something happens outside it.... oops!

I'm trying to think of a positive lesson to impart from this. The best I can come up with is not to trust your system to record everything you actually did.
