"Perfect" iTunes equalizer setting

I noticed a lot of people are favoriting this screen grab of the "Perfect" iTunes equalizer setting (I posted it to Flickr, so I won't keep forgetting it when I need it). Ever since I saw this in that Mac OS X Hints article, I've used it as my default equalizer in iTunes -- it seems to give a nice pop to MP3 tracks in particular. As stated earlier the tip in itself is not so brilliant. But the setting actually mimicks the "loudness" button often featured on consumer hifi systems. The background for the loudness button (which boost the top & bottom) is to compensate for how our ears react at lower volumes. When a sound is low we don't hear the top & bottom so well, and this compensates for it in some way. And also the reason why this setting sounds better to many people. I myself never uses this kind of approach since it does more damage than good to the mix. » POSTED IN:
