I agree with Trev to an extent about the joys of childhood, but as long as we are trying to teach kids we should offer a curriculum that will benefit them. We have a habit of teaching to the lowest common denominator here in the US; students are "taught the test" too frequently. We need to do better by them and by their teachers. Part of the reason that children learn to memorize for the test is because of the way the test is structured. Teach them that they can teach each other. Agreed with all the critical thinking comments above, but see how much "critical thinking" you can teach before you start gaining the attention of parents and administrators. Great post, Merlin, it started a well-needed conversation. That and it made me think about how much I want to leave IT behind and get into teaching. » POSTED IN:
