Vox Pop: What's your "Mac Whine?"
Merlin Mann | Feb 28 2007
We've started a new feature over on MacBreak Weekly that I really hope becomes a regular thing: "_Mac Whines_!" Yeah, sure, I'm an unapologetic Apple fanboy (I, mean duh), but some stuff about my Mac experience makes me crazy. Have you got a beef with your Mac or OS X you want to shout from the shiny counter of the "Genius" Bar? Yeah, me too. I'll open with:

I have cursorily read some posts about quicksilver and it's awesomeness, and I have downloaded it but I fail to see what the big deal is about. Quicksilver doesn't give me enough time to finish typing whatever it is I am looking for, at least spotlight lets me finish. One of my peeves that has already been mentioned, is the fact that the home and end keys don't always work the same way, I photo has rules for filing photos that are beyond my comprehension, and why are the thumbnails stored in a different directory than the actual pictures and with an impossible to decipher naming convention ???? Why couldn't they make the mighty mouse rechargeable/ able to work plugged in with an a/c adapter, like the BT mouse? why is the wireless keyboard so stiff, you really have to pound those keys!!! Yes it's pretty, but that's about it. why preview cannot let you change the way it highlights words you look for using a fn+ f in a fashion that actually makes the word stand out. Ditto for the resizing window peeve. It makes no sense. Palm desktop and WD Backup run in the background even though I am not using either palm or have the wd external drive plugged in, is there a way I could keep this processes ( or any other I'd like) from starting when I reboot? One last one, why can't I use the scroll ball of my mighty mouse to scroll down and sideways in a menu with nested options? Mandax » POSTED IN:
