Vox Pop: What's your "Mac Whine?"
Merlin Mann | Feb 28 2007
We've started a new feature over on MacBreak Weekly that I really hope becomes a regular thing: "_Mac Whines_!" Yeah, sure, I'm an unapologetic Apple fanboy (I, mean duh), but some stuff about my Mac experience makes me crazy. Have you got a beef with your Mac or OS X you want to shout from the shiny counter of the "Genius" Bar? Yeah, me too. I'll open with:

I just realised that I have a fairly big whine with iCal, primarily because it is missing a function (or two) that interfere with how my personal style of GTD works. In order to get my inbox to empty on Apple Mail, I like to schedule appointments based on the mail I get, i.e. make it actionable right away. I recently discovered an app that makes it quite intuitive, it's called Event Maker and it happens to be free (though donations are appreciated). Now, to get on with the show, it allows you to create any amount of appointments you like based on a mail and I have tied it to a quicksilver-trigger to make it simple as 1-2-3. Where the problem happens is when you are creating many appointments in the future and you need to know it that is ok. iCal does not notify you if you have a conflict however! Of course, the Apple iCal page names this sort of a feature, in that you can quickly go to the relevant appointment and see if there are multiple ones. But really there should be an option in iCal to warn you if a conflict exists, much like my Sony Ericsson has for instance. Also a better integration between iCal and Mail would be handy. So that is my most recent Mac Whine. » POSTED IN:
