Vox Pop: What's your "Mac Whine?"
Merlin Mann | Feb 28 2007
We've started a new feature over on MacBreak Weekly that I really hope becomes a regular thing: "_Mac Whines_!" Yeah, sure, I'm an unapologetic Apple fanboy (I, mean duh), but some stuff about my Mac experience makes me crazy. Have you got a beef with your Mac or OS X you want to shout from the shiny counter of the "Genius" Bar? Yeah, me too. I'll open with:

The fact that Apple broke...Submitted by Honza (not verified) on March 1, 2007 - 6:25am.
The fact that Apple broke DAAP in iTunes 7. The fact that iTunes won't sync with any MP3 player other than iPod. The fact that you can't tell finder not to leave .DS_Store files on mounted volumes - like USB pen drives, mobile phones, mp3 players etc The fact that whenever my system is performing badly I look at activity monitor to see the culprit, and it's usually Safari. I have 3-4 tabs open, and it's using 1gb of virtual memory and 300mb of real. This is just insane. The fact that sometimes the volume keys on the keyboard will sometimes decide to change the volume of my USB headset (which is only there for skype) instead of the systems volume. For no apparent reason that I can fathom. The fact that Aperture is not included in iLife (iAperture anyone?) - it's too expensive for an app that isn't a full photo editor, which means an extra purchase, and iPhoto is just lame. Thumbs up for Adobe Lightroom (which actually RUNS on a G4), but it's still too expensive at $199. The fact that file cutting and pasting (IE moving) isn't available without a hack (what - has MS got a patent on this or something???) The fact that even though I switched to Mac 18 months ago, and I have tons more free time because of it - I'm still the frigging IT support centre for my windows using friends and family :-| The fact that I wanted to go home a half hour ago, and I foolishly decided to check in on 43folders.com. » POSTED IN:
